I am a tertiary level administrator from Belize. I hold a doctorate degree in higher education and a master’s degree in educational leadership. I believe that education should be accessible to all learners no matter their unique circumstances (inclusion). I desire to see more meaningful innovations, and implementations, to allow for inclusion of persons of all abilities in our education system and to ensure life-long and life-wide learning.
I observed limited use of, and in some cases, lack of interest to use technology in education. Lack of technical skills or fear of the unknown may be some reasons. I am foreseeing that technology can benefit our education system – planning, instruction, assessment, and evaluation. I am aware too of possible unintended outcomes when use is unguided.
Being aware of some of our local limitations, I have decided to further my studies in Online Distance Education. This master’s level course is affording me the opportunity to gain more insight into the effective use of technology for learning and also the ability to leverage it to improve our educational practices.
Let’s not be deactivated by fear of the unknown. Let’s prepare today, now that we have time, for a better tomorrow.
